Country Archives

The Archive for Forth Valley County is held in Stirling Guide Hut. The archive is thriving and has a wonderful collection of old uniforms, flags, books, badges and photographs going back to the beginning of Guiding in the Stirlingshire area.

The Archive also holds the records of units being opened in the area, the first of which was in 1913 following a visit by Miss Agnes Baden Powell on 6th February 1913.

The following units were opened on the 25th March 1913 and registered on 17th October 1913.

  • No. 1 Company at the High School of Stirling with Miss Aitken as Captain
  • No. 2 Company at Stirling Girls Club with Miss Tasker as Captain
  • No. 3 Company at the High School of Stirling with Miss Curror as Captain
  • No. 4 Company at Bridge of Allan with Miss Fleming as Captain
  • No. 5 Company at Cambusbarron with Miss Napier as Captain

According to the records by 1918 there were companies in Falkirk, Denny, Laurieston, Drymen, Camelon, Plean, Balfron, Killearn, Strathblane, Campsie, Grangemouth, Polmont and Bonnybridge.

The Archive room is open to everyone and arrangements to visit can be made through the Archivist.  The Archivist and her assistants are also available to visit units to show off the old uniforms etc and talk about the history of guiding in the area.  In the past the Archive has been used for exhibitions and hopefully will be again.
